St. Peter Claver is a member of the Micah Project, a faith-based organization working to unlock the power of people living in Orleans and Jefferson Parishes. Micah Project is an affiliate of PICO LIFT, a statewide organization with members in Baton Rouge, New Roads, New Iberia and Thibodaux and PCIO National Network with affiliates in seventeen states.
St. Peter Claver Local Organizing Ministry has over eighteen years of experience developing leaders through the PICO Organizing Model to create solutions that address crime, affordable housing, education and healthcare issues within the Tremé/Lafitte and Tulane/Gravier neighborhoods. As leaders, we believe the following:
- We BELIEVE in putting faith into action and that there is no place in our community for violence on the streets.
- We BELIEVE that there is power in the relationships we form with our Public Officials and that we can change the conditions in our community.
- We BELIEVE that businesses should respect life, promote positive growth and be held accountable to the community.
- We BELIEVE that our families have a right to sit on their porches and walk our neighborhood in safety.
