St. Peter Claver School opened its doors in 1921, dedicated to the proposition that African American children can and must excel. The school provides a safe and resourceful environment devoted to developing the whole child. We embrace our heritage with a holistic approach that affirms our faith and strengthens our self-esteem.

K-8th Religious Education

The elementary religious education program, often referred to as CCD, is for all students in grades K through 8th who are not attending Catholic schools. Classes are held on Saturday mornings from 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. in the school. Registration is held the last week in August through the first week in September. Contact the parish office at (504) 822-8059 for more information.

Preparation of children ages seven and older for the Sacraments of First Reconciliation and First Eucharist is available both in St. Peter Claver Catholic Central School Religion Program and the Parish Elementary Religious Education Program.    Preparation for the Sacraments for children attending St. Peter Claver Catholic Central School is accomplished For children attending St. Peter Claver School, preparation is accomplished during religion classes. Children attending non-Catholic schools prepare for these sacraments through the parish’s elementary religion classes are held on Saturday mornings from 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a. m. in the school building.

Parents are required to attend meetings as their children prepare for these sacraments.

High School Religious Education

Religious Education for high school students in an integral component of the total youth ministry of the parish. The program follows the curriculum guidelines of the Archdiocese of New Orleans by offering sessions in the Old and New Testaments, the Catholic Church, Morality, Jesus our Friend and Marriage Commitment. Students attending Catholic and Non-Catholic high schools are welcomed to participate. Sessions are offered in the fall and spring semesters on Wednesday evenings from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. in the Ujima and Sankofa buildings.
