The Knights and Ladies of Peter Claver form the two largest African-American Catholic organizations in the United States. These organizations are filled with limitless opportunities for zealous Catholics to work for their parish. Bishops, priests and laity have given Claverism such sdivong support through the years that it now boasts of many flourishing subordinate units of Catholic men and women, totaling over one hundred thousand family members throughout the United States. Nia-Imani Women with Purpose – Women of Faith
NIA IMANI is the women’s organization of St. Peter Claver Church designed to include all adult female members of the Church. The organization seeks to explore and provide an understanding of African-American women and the essence of Christian womanhood. They approach the challenges affecting today’s society with a sdivong faith foundation. Meetings are held on the second Tuesday of every month at 7:00 p.m. in the Parish Office. United Men of Jesus Association
An organization of the Church designed to bring men together to experience their unique heritage as African-Americans celebrating their Christian faith. The Men of UMOJA seek to fulfill their mission of worship, fellowship, service and leadership in our parish. UMOJA meets on the 1st Wednesday of the month at 6:30 p.m. in the Fern Brady Community Center. Contact the Parish Office for more information.
The Ladies’ Sodality possesses an ardent devotion, reverence and love for the Blessed Virgin Mary. They assist in the upkeep of the sanctuary and all vessels used for liturgical celebrations. The Ladies Sodality attends 9:00 a.m. Mass every first Sunday of the month and meet immediately in the Fern Brady Ujima Community Center. Contact the parish office for more information.
Legion of Mary
The Legion of Mary responds to the spiritual needs of the parish community through intercession and visitation. Each week the members gather to pray for the parish community and to receive the names of the shut-ins and hospitalized members of the parish who the Legion will visit and minister to in prayer. The Legion meets every Tuesday in the Community Center at 5:00 p.m.
An organization of the church designed to provide an opportunity for seniors and elders to celebrate the gift of life through birthday celebrations, social gatherings, spiritual enrichment and other activities. Our seniors meet every 2nd Monday at 3:00 p.m. in the Fern Brady Community Center. Contact the Parish Office for more information.
Junior Knights/Daughters of St. Peter Claver
The Junior Knights/Daughters of St. Peter Claver are both open to all young men and ladies between the ages of 7 and 17 years old. For more information contact the parish office (504) 822-8059.
Singles / Single Again
Seeks to provide opportunities for gathering that include recreational and spiritual enrichment for singles, which includes single parents, divorced, widowed, and separated parishioners ages 30 to 50 years old.
Youth Night gives our youth an opportunity to interact with each other in a positive atmosphere. Topics are presented through prayer, games, rap sessions, and skits. Outings are encouraged to provide additional fellowship opportunities. Contact the parish office for more information.
Family Life Commission helps all parishioners understand the importance of family (i.e., extended, church, local, community and global). It promotes the teaching mission of family to our church community. Additionally, it has the responsibility of developing, promoting, and evaluating programs on family life with the Archdiocese and the parish staff. Meetings are held every first Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. in the rectory.

Reinforced Spirituality – Rite of Passage
Our church provides a spiritual “boost” through our own St. Peter Claver Conference that is held in September. This conference has a component especially geared for youth in 6th through 12th grade. Opportunities to attend power packed faith events are announced in the church bulletin. Contact the parish office for more information.
Rites of Passage
The women of Nia-Imani and the men of UMOJA accept the challenge to guide our young adults. Games, outings, prayer, and fellowship are just a few of the tools used to help our young people grow in every way. Contact the parish office for more information.
The 2018 Summer Camp will run from June 4th to July 14. Opportunities are provided for academic instruction in the morning. In addition sports, games, field trips, and swimming are just a few of the activities that are offered. Participants for this camp range from kindergarten to the beginning of seventh grade. This camp is approximately six weeks long and begins early June to mid July. Camp hours are from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Registration and tuition fees are required. Seeks to address the spiritual and emotional needs of incarcerated parishioners and their families as well as those parishioners who have been victims of crime.
St. Peter Claver is a member of the Micah Project, a faith-based organization working to unlock the power of people living in Orleans and Jefferson Parishes. Micah Project is an affiliate of PICO LIFT, a statewide organization with members in Baton Rouge, New Roads, New Iberia and Thibodaux and PCIO National Network with affiliates in seventeen states.
